Baggage Regulations
Passengers must follow the guidelines on items allowed onboard. If an X-ray scan does not clearly show the contents, security may conduct a visual search of carry-on and checked baggage. Cooperation with security personnel is mandatory. Electronic items like laptops and mobile phones may require additional screening. Passengers should place electronics and metallic items, such as keys and coins, in a separate tray during security checks.
Hand Baggage:
As per the latest Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) guidelines, each passenger is allowed to carry one handbag weighing a maximum of seven kgs with dimensions not exceeding 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Within the seven kgs, passengers may carry a laptop bag, a ladies’ handbag, an overcoat, rug, blanket, or wrap, a camera or binoculars, reading material for the flight, and infant food along with a carrying basket.
Hand baggage allowance differs based on the airline. Passengers should check with their airline for specific limits. Power banks are only allowed in hand baggage.
Satellite phones and drones are not permitted in both hand and checked baggage.
Check-In Baggage Allowance:
Checked-in baggage allowance varies by airline. Passengers should check with their airline for specific limits.
Guidelines for Liquids/Aerosols/Gels in Hand Baggage
For security reasons, there are restrictions on carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) in hand baggage:
- Each container must not exceed 100ml.
- Containers larger than 100ml are not allowed.
- During security screening, passengers must remove LAGs from their bags and place them separately in a tray.
- All LAGs must be packed in clear, resealable plastic bags.

Important Points for Departure from India
Passengers carrying high-value items, such as jewellery, must obtain an export certificate to avoid Customs duties when re-importing them.
Physical verification is required to get this certificate.
Indian residents may carry up to INR. 25,000 in Indian currency.
Carrying INR 500 to Nepal and Bhutan is not allowed; only INR. 100 or smaller denominations are permitted.
There is no limit on the amount of foreign exchange Indian residents can carry if issued by an RBI-authorised dealer. However, foreign currency exceeding US $5,000 (or equivalent) in cash or a total foreign exchange amount exceeding US $10,000 (or equivalent) must be declared at the Customs Counter.
Tourists and NRIs can take foreign currency out of India, but only equal to the amount brought in.
