Thiruvananthapuram International Airport: A beacon of advanced technology and security

  • Thiruvananthapuram International Airport stands at the forefront of aviation technology and security, enabling a seamless and safe travel experience for all passengers. The airport is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including advanced Bomb Detection and Disposal Systems (BDDS) such as SLCV, TCV, 3D Wall-through Radar, and Liquid Explosive Detectors. These cutting-edge tools enhance our ability to detect and neutralise potential threats effectively.
  • Security at the airport is managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), who are equipped with the latest Quick Reaction Team (QRT) vehicles, ensuring round-the-clock vigilance. To further bolster security, all X-ray Baggage Inspection Systems (XBIS) have been upgraded to Dual View, providing enhanced screening capabilities for baggage.

  • In addition, the airport has implemented a Facial Recognition System for employees and contractors, significantly augmenting the security posture of the facility. This system ensures that only authorised personnel have access to sensitive areas, thereby maintaining a high level of security.

  • The airport also boasts an Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) and advanced Computer Tomography X-ray (CTX) machines, which streamline the scanning process and enhance the efficiency of security checks. These facilities not only improve security but also contribute to a smoother and more efficient passenger experience.

  • Currently, 700 high-end CCTV cameras are installed across the airport, with plans to increase the numbers to further enhance surveillance capabilities. The latest video analytics, including crowd detection, loitering, and Queue Management Systems, are being developed using the AVIIO platform. These advanced analytics will enhance the airport's ability to manage passenger flow and enable safety.

  • Additionally, as part of the upcoming Project Anantha – the Terminal Expansion Project - the airport is planning to implement a Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS). This project underscores the airport's commitment to continuously improving security measures and expanding its infrastructure to meet future demands.

  • The security department at TRV has proactively initiated the digitisation of legacy documents related to the Pass Section. The airport is on the verge of implementing an Online Airport Entry Permit (AEP) System to eliminate paper usage and provide a seamless, paperless experience.

  • TRV features an Anti-Hijack Control Room, which was recently renovated to accommodate the latest technology, further enhancing our preparedness and response capabilities.

  • The airport, being a heavily regulated asset under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), undergoes stringent and periodic audits to ensure compliance. The audit and compliance team diligently makes sure that all required regulations are met in accordance with the stipulated guidelines. These teams conduct thorough checks and maintain rigorous standards to uphold the safety and security of the airport.

  • The airport security team, in close coordination with local and state authorities, conducts a variety of comprehensive checks and proactive drives to ensure the safety and security of the airport. These efforts include regular patrols, thorough inspections, and collaborative initiatives aimed at identifying and mitigating potential threats, thereby maintaining a secure environment for both passengers and staff.

  • TRV is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security, using the latest technology to provide a secure and pleasant environment for all travellers.
