Our Approach

TRV (Kerala) International Airport Ltd. (TIAL) integrates sustainability into its operations and decision-making. A dedicated Environment and Sustainability Department, supported by cross-functional teams, oversees the implementation of the ESG strategy. The strategy focuses on environmental responsibility, social impact, and long-term value through a strong governance framework, reinforcing TRV’s commitment to sustainability.

Sustainability Stories

Climate Change

TRV integrates climate action into its sustainability efforts. Its carbon reduction targets align with India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and the Paris Agreement’s aim to limit global warming to below 2°C, while striving for the 1.5°C target.

Water Stewardship

Water stewardship is an essential part of TRV’s sustainability strategy. We recognise the critical importance of water conservation and sustainable water management by identifying risks, optimising usage, and reducing reliance on surface water. Our goal is to achieve water positivity through best-in-class industry practices in water stewardship.​

Waste-Management

TRV aligns its waste management approach with AAHL’s Waste Management Policy, centered on the 5R principles—Reduce, Reuse, Reprocess, Recycle, and Recover. Waste is managed by a five stage process at a dedicated Material Recovery Facility, ensuring compliance with national regulations. With a strong focus on waste minimization and sustainability, TRV became India’s first airport to receive the Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) recognition from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in FY 2024–25 by diverting 99.5 percent waste from landfills.

Fleet Decarbonization

TRV is actively transforming airport mobility by accelerating the shift to eco-friendly transportation. TRV successfully transitioned 14 fossil fuel-based vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EVs). To support this transition, the airport has also installed four EV charging stations across its premises.

Land Use and Biodiversity

Land use and Biodiversity preservation are part of TRVs environmental strategy. Under the Adani group’s pledge on WEF’s 1t.org platform. TRV planted 1500 trees in FY 2024-25 and developed the Miyawaki forest near Terminal 2. Our Biodiversity Management strategy aligns with AAHL’s Biodiversity Policy which is committed to No Net Loss to Biodiversity.

Safety and Well-Being

At TRV, safety and well-being are foundational values. The organization upholds rigorous Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, embedding risk management and mitigation into every aspect of its operations. TRV leverages advanced technologies and digital tools to enhance workplace safety. More than just meeting compliance requirements, TRV cultivates a work culture that nurtures both personal and professional development.

Community Engagement

TRV in collaboration with the Adani foundation, actively engage in community development initiatives. In FY 2024-25, TIAL organised free eye screening and spectacles distribution camps in four schools in nearby community. Totally, 299 children were screened, and 65 spectacles were distributed.

Community Engagement

The Adani foundation has collaborated with the Kerala Water Authority by provisioning an aquatic weed harvester to free the Aruvikkara Dam reservoir from floating waste, plastic waste and weeds thereby helping prevent eutrophication, improving water quality and enhancing aquatic biodiversity.

Nurturing Traditions

Kerala, fondly celebrated as God’s Own Country, is home to the historic city of Thiruvananthapuram—renowned for the majestic Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. At TRV, we take immense pride in preserving a century-old legacy. Twice a year, our runway becomes a sacred path as we honor the divine Arattu procession of Lord Padmanabhaswamy, blending tradition with modern aviation.​
